Jennifer's FWS situation...

Jennifer came to campus today, 4/9/13. She is recuperating from her 3 week stay in the hospital and one week recovery at home. Unfortunately, she had to drop out of all of her classes because of her illness. Federal Work Study requires that a student keep at least 8 units or they can not stay in the program. Jennifer can't work anymore this semester, but she will be able to work in the extended spring semester, May 13-June 20. I have removed her from the work schedule for what's left of Spring semester.

This obviously impacts the lab-instructors who work late on Mondays (Joe), and Thursdays (Geoff). Jennifer also worked mid day on Tuesdays, but Michael Mangum can help at the desk, if he doesn't have any students to tutor.

It doesn't make sense to me to request the other student workers to try and cover Jennifer's times. Even if they could work the hours, it would burn through their remaining hours, forcing even more lab instructors to work the check out desk. When scheduling the students, I try and create a schedule where the student works off their grant in a way that allows them to work for the entire semester.

We have only 3 weeks of regular classes left, then finals week. We always have some times during finals week when lab instructors need to work the check out desk because final exams impact the schedule. This semester may require our help at the desk more than in past semesters.
