Inasmuch as we can guarantee that there will be a major earthquake here someday and pursuant to the conventions of "Be Prepared": I feel it is in our best interests to purposefully keep our high density shelving units closed up (pushed to the right and every few units locked). This should significantly reduce the quantity of mess caused by a big shaker, up to a certain point.
I am going to instruct student workers to actively keep the shelves closed up in the ensemble area, and will also ask the same of ensemble directors after they have finished looking for music in their ensemble library areas.
Can we please ensure that the shelves are closed up this way at the end of every workday.
Sorry to add to your closing routine, but this feels like a simple security fix that we will be happy to have instituted in the event of a Big One.
