seven "un-barcoded" fake books...

It has been brought to my attention that there are seven "un-barcoded" fake books. They are: 1)Real Book, Vol. 2; 2)Dixieland Jazz Standards; 3)The Bb Real Book 5th ed.; 4)The Eb Real Book, Vol. 2; 5)The Real Book (B Flat); 6)The Real Book 6th ed.; 7 & 8)The New Real Fake Book: Legal. (There are two copies of this; one with cover and complete table of contents, and one with no cover and only last page [detached] of table of contents.) These eight books present the following problems: 1)Because some students are getting used to borrowing these volumes without checking them out at the Circulation Desk, they are also borrowing other volumes (with barcodes)without checking them out. Sort of a confusing double standard. 2)Because these volumes are not barcoded, we are losing data on how often they are used. Can we get these items bar-coded (and a cover put on the injured New Real Fake Book, plus a complete table of contents that we can copy from the other New Real Fake Book)?

  2. But if it is a fake book, then it doesn't really exist. RIght? How can you barcode nothingness?

  3. Joe,

Your timing is uncanny. . . . We have just purchased a whole collection of new legal "fake books". They have been catalogued and they are being processed for shelving as we speak.

We will have the following books in C, Eb, Bb, Bass clef and vocal where available.
The Real Book Vol I (Hal Leonard)
The Real Book Vol II (Hal Leonard)
The Real Book Vol III (Hal Leonard)
The New Real Book Vol I (Sher Publishing)
The New Real Book Vol II (Sher Publishing)
The Standards Real Book (C only)

Eric and the good folks at Offices Service are working on installing hard covers to protect the new books and repair the damaged old books.

When it is all on the shelf I'll send out an email announcing the new collection.

And EVERYTHING will have a barcode!

The illegal old books have been . . . well . . . . they never happened. 'nuff said.
